  1. If you are thinking about space operas, I just wanted to be sure you’ve read Lois McMaster Bujold’s Vorkosigan books…

  2. Wow – it’s been so long since I’ve read Rebel Angels that I’d completely forgotten the plot. I should reread more than just the Salterton Trilogy sometimes.

And, yes, my guy kept telling me about the beginning of Consider Phlebas and we both also felt like the hero was merely pingponging from one dangerous situation to the next. It turned into a game of “he’s where, now? how?”

Your description of Charles de Lint piqued my interest, I’ll have to put him on my list.

    1. I love Charles de Lint a lot, and Memory and Dream is my favorite. It’s one of my favorite books of all time. It is about love and art and magic and death and friendship and is both dark and hopeful. I hope you read it and enjoy it!

  3. God, I love The Rebel Angels (particularly Parlabane and Maria’s mom, although you can sort of see Darcourt starting to pull ahead of them in this one).

    1. Parlablane is an amazing creation, and Maria’s mom turns out to be a very wise woman. It’s a wonderful book that keeps opening up new worlds inside its characters without changing who they essentially are.

Oh, and I really liked Darcourt. He was very relateable.
